Hyderabad: Telangana is witnessing a significant day for democracy today as voting for 116 Municipalities and Corporations commenced at 7:00 AM. According to the DGN News report, there is a high voter turnout across both urban and rural areas.

1. Key Highlights of the Telangana Municipal Polls

Approximately 52 lakh voters are expected to exercise their franchise today to decide the fate of 10,719 candidates. Voting will continue until 5:00 PM, and the results are scheduled to be announced on February 13. To ensure a peaceful polling process, the government has deployed over 41,000 staff members and thousands of police personnel. Additionally, a 'Paid Holiday' has been declared in all polling areas today.

2. AIMIM's 'Kingmaker' Strategy

The AIMIM, led by Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi, has fielded 282 candidates across 43 Urban Local Bodies. The party has focused its strength on major municipal corporations like Adilabad, Nizamabad, and Karimnagar. Political analysts suggest that AIMIM could play a 'Kingmaker' role in several locations, particularly in the Bhainsa Municipality, where they are strong contenders for the Chairperson seat.

3. Conclusion of GHMC Council's Term

The 5-year term of the current Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) council ended today. Until the next elections are held, the city's administration will be managed by a 'Special Officer.'
